Today the students received their first baggie books! I completed a mini reading assessment with each student to see which level each student is currently at. The levels so far are A, B, C, D & E. Every Friday the student will have to return their baggie book to me and they will change it out for a new one. Their baggie book should be read with a parent/guardian every evening for reading practice. Each Friday the student will also do another mini assessment with me to see if they can move up a level. The level should challenge the student slightly but not to the point where they are completely struggling with the material. They were very excited about receiving their first baggie books today and I'm sure they will look forward to reading them with you!

Book Order
Friday, September 11th, 2017
Book orders are due next Friday!!! 😀
Students went home with their first book order of the year today! There are many educational books in this order and the students were very excited about receiving them today. Most of the students already know how the scholastic book orders work. In case you don't, each book has a number code on it, on the back of the order there is a form and you fill in your information and the codes of the books you would like to order. Make sure your money is included in the order for next Friday! If you have any questions feel free to email me.
Math Work
Thursday, September 10th, 2017
Today in class we focused on some math work. We worked on some addition problems on the smart board (which I am unable to post here) and went over their previous knowledge of addition. They seemed to grasp the concept very well because they were taught a little in kindergarten. They completed the Fall themed worksheet below which they handed in to me to get graded.

If you want some extra practice for you, your class or your child, feel free to use any of the sheets below! They are excellent resources to the material we will cover for math.
English Language Arts Work
Wednesday, September 9th, 2017
Today we also worked on some language arts work. We did a lesson on short and long vowel sounds in words and how to identify them. We did some activities in class that were very interactive and enjoyable for the students. We then completed this worksheet in class and they handed them in at the end of class for me to grade. This is to make sure they are grasping the concept, since it was a colouring activity they really seemed to enjoy it!

"All About Me"
Tuesday, September 8th, 2017
Hello everyone!
This week we have all been getting to know each other by using ice breakers and it is going fabulously. It's been great getting to know all of my students so far. To start off my first class, we made worksheets in which the student drew a picture of themselves and included some important facts. These are the worksheets posted on our bulletin board in the hallway right now:
The students also completed another worksheet all about their favourites. They coloured it in and wrote what each of their favourite things listed were. Once they completed the worksheet they were paired up in groups of two with someone they were not in a kindergarten class with the previous year. They held their sheets and conducted a mini interview asking the other person what each of their favourite things were and then switched roles. The interviews went great, many of the students even found to have similar interests!
